 KANDY / ADAMS PEAK
After breakfast proceed to Adams Peak from Kandy.
Probably the world's oldest annual climbing ritual begins and this time it's with Jumbos ! The Sri Pada [ Holy Feet ], or in western terms Adam's Peak, climbing season begins from the December Full Moon Poya day with age old traditions and rituals.Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world congregate for this climb, mostly in the night so as to be at the top to witness the glorious sunrise, until the Full Moon Poya day in May .
Officials said they saw five elephants frequenting the Sri Pada route and that they are well grown jumbos. They said two herds of elephants live in the wet zone and one is in the Sri Pada range. The park office of the department that carried out a surveyon elephants in the Sri Pada area enumerated 19 well grown elephants.
For a long period Adam's Peak was supposed to be the highest mountain in  Sri Lanka , but actual survey makes it only 7353 ft. above sea-level. This elevation is chiefly remarkable as the resort of pilgrims from all parts of the East. The hollow in the lofty rock that crowns the summit is said by the Brahmans to be the footstep of Siva, by the Buddhists of Buddha, by the Muslims of Adam, whilst the Portuguese Christians were divided between the conflicting claims of St Thomas and the eunuch of Candace, queen of Ethiopia. The footstep is covered by a handsome roof.

Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are the Pettah bazaar - where one can shop for bargain, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH)- an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People's Republic of China.
